Social Justice Ministry

The St. John Paul the Great Social Justice Ministry Committee’s mission is to

  1. provide for the needs of the poor, the hungry and the homeless in Torrington,
  2. educate parishioners about the Scriptural call to all of us to reach out to those in need and
  3. promote parish participation in Ministry activities.

In 2023, in our monthly food drives, we collected and distributed approximately 1,500 lbs. of food along with monetary donations to area food banks through Stock the Shelves.

We supported Two Hearts Pregnancy Center through our “Mother's Day Baby Shower” collection in addition to the baby supplies collected during the month of October for “Respect Life Month.”

Our “Christmas in July” toy drives for FISH and Friendly Hands provided the organizations with a head-start for the holiday season.

This year, we brought back our “Christmas Giving Trees” with assistance from the parish youth ministry and collected hundreds of gifts for FISH, Friendly Hands, Two Hearts, and home-bound parishioners.
